Heading from the Jai Alai directions page: The Jai Alai is located at 73 West Blackwell St. in historic Dover, NJ.

The restaurant is permanently closed following the five-alarm fire of September 2023. These directions are kept as a record of where it stood; there is nothing to visit at the address today. Read what happened.

Driving

Dover sits where US 46 crosses the Rockaway River in Morris County, a few miles west of Rockaway and east of Netcong. West Blackwell Street is the town's main street and runs parallel to, and one block south of, Bassett Highway (US 46) through downtown.

From Interstate 80

Leave I-80 at the exit for US 46 West toward Dover, then follow US 46 into Dover, where it becomes Bassett Highway. Turn left onto West Blackwell Street toward the town centre; number 73 is on the south side of the street, between Prospect Street and Warren Street.

From Interstate 287

Take I-287 to I-80 West (toward Netcong and Stroudsburg), then take the US 46 West exit toward Dover and follow the directions above.

From Route 10 and Morristown

Follow Route 10 West to its end at US 46 in Roxbury, then take US 46 East toward Dover and turn right onto West Blackwell Street in the town centre.

From US 46 East or West

Coming from Hackettstown or Netcong in the west, or from Rockaway and Denville in the east, stay on US 46 to downtown Dover and turn onto West Blackwell Street. The street is signed and runs through the historic commercial centre.

Parking

Parking in downtown Dover is on-street plus municipal lots within a block or two of West Blackwell Street. On-street spaces along West Blackwell Street and the side streets (Prospect, Warren, Sussex and Morris) were the usual choice for a dinner service. Allow a few extra minutes on weeknights and during town events.

By train

The Dover station on NJ Transit's Morris & Essex Line is in downtown Dover, a short walk from 73 West Blackwell Street. The line runs from Hoboken and Newark Broad Street west through the Morris County towns, which made the Jai Alai reachable without a car from much of northern New Jersey and from New York via Hoboken.

Directions by phone

The original directions page carried one line for drivers who wanted to be talked in: directions by phone, 973-989-0916. That number was the restaurant's, and it is listed here for reference only — the restaurant closed in 2023.

A note on the printable directions. The original website also offered a downloadable “Driving Directions” PDF. That file was never preserved in any public web archive, so it cannot be restored. The written directions on this page replace it, and cover the same ground in more detail.
